If your sound effect volume is set too low, some sound effects will be
disabled (even if you should actually hear them)!
The sound effect volume is written in the registry setting "MasterFXVolume".
A few example of missing sounds I have found on my machine:
- "Beam up (charge weapon) sound" requires FX volume 16 or higher.
- Main menu background atmosphere sound requires FX volume 21 or higher.
- Loading screen melody requires FX volume 21 or higher.
- Regrowth sound of exploding pumpkins requires FX volume 17 or higher.
So, to solve this issue, just increase the ingame sound effect volume (and therefore, decrease the Windows sound card volume if it is too loud).
